PREPARATION

Before starting, you ensure your hands and nails are well cleaned. File your nails if necessary, so that there are no snags. By doing this you prevent damages on the face and risk of infection.

Always work using clean materials (sponges, brushes, spatulas, water bowls) and change the water regularly.

Get the subject to put on any clothes beforehand that have to be put on over the head. Protect your models clothing with a hairdressing cape or a towel.

If, with a wound, the skin surface has to be raised or deformed in some way, then you use Grimas Derma Wax.

First degrease and clean the skin you are going to be working on with Grimas Cleansing Lotion. Then wipe dry with a tissue.

Use the convex rounded side of the Derma Wax Spatula to take Derma Wax out of the jar. By scraping it out, you already make the texture a bit flexible.

You then make the wax easier to model by applying it to the ball of your thumb and scraping it off again with the spatula two or three times.
The wax must be flexible but also firm and must definitely not be allowed to get too soft and sticky.
MODELLING

Apply the Derma Wax. Smooth the edges flat so that grease and moisture can not get underneath.

DERMA WAX = Derma Wax
Smooth the Derma Wax surface and edges off with the fingertip, using a little bit of Grimas Cleansing Cream.
Dab all over with a dry, clean make-up sponge. Doing this, you remove the excess Cleansing Cream and you create a skin-texture effect.
Powder the whole with a make-up sponge with Grimas Transparent Powder to matt and fix it; then turn the sponge over and continue dabbing with the clean side until the excess powder has been removed.

MAKING A CUT

To create an 'open wound', the Derma Wax construction has to be 'cut open' with the sharp side of a Derma Wax spatula. Lubricate the tip of the spatula with a little bit of Cleansing Cream. This will allow the spatula to slide more easily through the Derma Wax, preventing it from sticking to the spatula. Make a horizontal cut in the Derma Wax structure across the nose.

To add a suggestion of depth to the 'wound', colour the bottom of the wound using black make-up. Then you colour the inner side of the wound with dark red make-up (Grimas Water Make-up Pure or Crème Make-up Pure).

FINISHING

Finally, you add Grimas Blood or Filmblood to get the required effect.

Blood
Apply directly from the tube or with a brush.

There are different shades of Filmblood: from light red (oxygen-rich blood) to dark red (oxygen-poor blood). You can apply it directly from the bottle.

FILMBLOOD = Filmblood
Use a Stubble Sponge or a tissue to disperse the blood around the 'wound', if desired.

REMOVING THE PRODUCTS

Massage Grimas Multi Remover Pure or Cleansing Cream into the skin.
Scrape the Derma Wax off the skin with the spatula.
Repeat this.

If a slight film forms on the skin, cleanse it afterwards with Grimas Cleansing Lotion.

CLEANSING LOTION = Cleansing Lotion
If Blood, Filmblood or Blood Paste got onto clothing, rinse it out under a tap. Leave the item of clothing to soak in water containing a pre-wash (Biotex). Then wash it by hand or put it in the washing machine.

FILMBLOOD = Filmblood

CLEARING UP THE MATERIALS

The sponges are disposable so you can throw them away after use. If you do want to reuse them, first rinse them under the tap with some soap or shampoo or wash them in the washing machine (in a net bag or pillow case), set to at least 60°C.

You can clean brushes with water and soap or shampoo. Put the moist hairs of the brushes back into shape by hand after washing. Dry the brushes lying flat on a towel and do not place them upright, since that causes the moisture to run down into the shaft.
