PREPARATION

Before starting, you ensure your hands and nails are well cleaned. File your nails if necessary, so that there are no snags. By doing this you prevent damages on the face and risk of infection.

Always work using clean materials (sponges, brushes, spatulas, water bowls) and change the water regularly.

Get the subject to put on any clothes beforehand that have to be put on over the head. Protect your models clothing with a hairdressing cape or a towel.

Start by applying a Bald Cap according to the usual technique.
BALD CAP = Baldcap
Short hair: shave away hair on the neck, if necessary, make sideburns shorter, and then comb the hair backwards tightly (moisten a little if necessary), and fixate with hairspray.

Note: do not use gel.

First degrease and clean the skin you are going to be working on with Grimas Cleansing Lotion. Then dry the skin with a tissue.
CLEANSING LOTION = Cleansing Lotion
APPLY A BALD CAP

Ball both hands into fists and put them into the Bald Cap, stretching it a little so that you can check it.

BALD CAP = Baldcap
Stand behind the subject and ask them to place their thumbs vertically with the nails against their forehead so that the Bald Cap can catch against them when placed with a front-to-back movement. Ensure that the point at the front is well centred and that there is sufficient space below the hairline for adhesion.
BALD CAP = Baldcap
Arrange the Bald Cap so that it is smooth and tight, covering the head properly without any wrinkles.
BALD CAP = Baldcap
First attachment stage

Fold the front edge back and apply an adhesive edge of about 2 cm just below the hairline with Grimas Mastix Extra. For a natural effect, you follow a possible natural line in the forehead.
Let the adhesive edge go as far as the temples.

MASTIX EXTRA = Mastix Extra
Bring the edge back to the forehead and press gently to distribute the adhesive.
Then fold back the edge again.
Allow to dry for about 15 seconds and then apply to the forehead again: make the Bald Cap fit tight to the head, without wrinkles.
BALD CAP = Baldcap
Freeing up the ears

Mark out the ears.
A felt-tip pen was used in this example for the sake of clarity. If a Grimas Make-up Pencil for example in a skin tone is used, the result is more subtle and no longer visible later on.
When you finish off the edges with acetone you are also immediately removing the sketch made using the Make-up Pencil.

MAKE-UP PENCIL = Make-up Pencil
When you start cutting the Bald Cap to size, it must be stretched tight. To make sure that the Bald Cap does not tear because of the tension and the cutting, use acetone to melt a hole in the Bald Cap at the point that you are cutting towards.

You should proceed as follows:
Pull the Bald Cap down at an angle to tense it. Dip a cotton bud in acetone (don't work too wet) and melt a small hole in the Bald Cap at precisely the right place: 2 mm below the point where the top of the pinna (the 'shell' of the ear) leaves the head.

Hint: if necessary, you can melt multiple holes along the line for easy cutting.

BALD CAP = Baldcap
Then cut carefully up from the bottom edge vertically to the hole. Now do the other side.

Get the ears out from underneath the Bald Cap.

BALD CAP = Baldcap
Cut the shape of the Bald Cap in the same way alongside the sideburns and make sure there is enough space to attach it. You can always make changes to the edge later using acetone.
BALD CAP = Baldcap
Second attachment stage

Get the model that will wear the Bald Cap to sit up straight. Now make a glued edge of approximately 2 cm along the sideburns. Let this adhesive edge fit up exactly against the glued edge on the forehead. There must not be a gap between them.
Use the same principle: fold back, apply adhesive, reposition the side edge, press gently and fold back again. Allow to dry for about 15 seconds and then apply along the sideburns again.

BALD CAP = Baldcap
Now go to the back of the head. To make sure that the Bald Cap does not tear, you use acetone to melt a hole in the Bald Cap at the point that you are cutting towards.
BALD CAP = Baldcap
Fold the Bald Cap back.
Apply a glued edge of approximately 2 cm along the hairline of the neck as far as about half-way behind the ears.
BALD CAP = Baldcap
Pull the Bald Cap with some tension over the back of the head, whilst pulling the sides forward. This ensures it fits neatly and is tensioned appropriately.
Fold it open again, allow to dry for 15 seconds and then close the Bald Cap for the last time.
BALD CAP = Baldcap
Finishing off the edges

Note: you finish the edges using cotton buds with acetone. You need 15 to 20 cotton buds for this, because the acetone dissolves the plastic. Don't dip used cotton buds back in the acetone.

Take a cotton bud with acetone and make a small hole on the forehead, in the middle of the adhesive edge.
Cut vertically up to the hole. You start working from this hole with acetone to create a clean transition from the Bald Cap to the skin.
BALD CAP = Baldcap
You proceed as follows: you rub the tip of a cotton bud dipped in acetone horizontally a number of times over the middle of the adhesive edge and then melt it downwards in a vertical motion.

Note: do a little piece at a time, and stay in the middle of the adhesive edge so that you are following the shape of the adhesive edge.

Make a small hole at the middle of the adhesive edge at the back as well; cut up to it and then proceed in the same fashion from the back of the head towards the back of the ears.

Colouring the Bald Cap

You colour the Bald Cap with Grimas Camouflage Make-up Pure or with the intense Crème Make-up Pure colours. Note: don't use Crème Make-up Pure for skin tones, but use Grimas Camouflage Make-up Pure.

Take the Camouflage Make-up out with a clean spatula. Rubbing it with your fingertip will make it softer and easier to handle. Apply the make-up using a sponge.

CRÈME MAKE-UP PURE = Crème Make-up Pure
Work from the spatula or stick with a dry and clean Make-up Sponge and apply the Camouflage Make-up Pure with a dabbing action. Work from the middle of the Bald Cap outwards toward the edges.
Continue over the face.

Take the Camouflage Make-up Pure out with a clean spatula and work from the spatula, or directly from the stick. Apply it with a slightly damp latex sponge or make-up sponge onto the skin. Do not forget the ears and the neck. This is how you avoid a mask-like effect.

FINISHING

Ageing
For ageing we use Crème Make-up Pure because this works out easily and has good fluidic properties. Draw frown lines and make shadows under the eyes to make the face look older. You draw the lines with a flat sable-hair brush. By placing it obliquely on the skin you get a sharp edge on one side and a fading effect on the other side. To determine which side should be sharp and which side faded, you start from the centre of the face (nose).
Create a fading effect towards the outside.

CRÈME MAKE-UP PURE = Crème Make-up Pure
BRUSHES RED SABLE-HAIR = Brushes Red Sable-Hair
To create a round effect you need to make all the elevated parts of the face stand out more. You emphasise these parts (nose, chin, brow bone and cheekbones) using a light colour. Emphasise the red cheeks by drawing a line in red from the naso-labial fold. Extend this line upwards and to the side, and let it merge into the base. If necessary, blur the segments and lines that are to be faded using a dry make-up sponge. You do this with a dabbing action, without wiping.
By lightening below the chinline, you suggest a sagging jawline and/or a double chin.

You draw the eyebrows using Grimas Eyeshadow/Rouge and a little Cleansing Lotion. Scrape a little Grimas Eyeshadow/Rouge loose using a spatula or the back of a brush. Take it up with a brush that has been moistened with Grimas Cleansing Lotion and mix it on the back of your hand.

EYESHADOW/ROUGE = Eyeshadow/Rouge
CLEANSING LOTION = Cleansing Lotion
To fix and mattify, you can powder the Camouflage off with Grimas Fixing Powder.

Fixing Powder can be applied with a Grimas Velour Powder Puff, a Powder Puff or a Powder Rouge Brush. Gently tap the puff or brush on the back of the hand and then apply plentifully on top of the make-up. Allow to settle in and remove the excess powder with a Powder-Rouge Brush.

You create a hairline using Wool Crepe.

CREATING A HAIRLINE

Pull a braid of about 50 cm wool crepe loose from the strings around which it has been wound.

WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
If you feel resistance, you cut the strings loose so that you can continue.
Pull the start of the straight-edge cut piece loose, so that its end becomes fluffy.

Straightening

Straighten the part you are working with, using a curler, styling tongs or an iron (on the 'wool' setting), until it has a slight wave.

Straighten the part you are working with, using a curler, styling tongs or an iron (on the 'wool' setting), until it has a slight wave. Do not pull it too hard, so the braid remains intact.
Pull gently to the right length
Now make the piece that you are working with longer and looser: run it through your hands and pull it gently bit by bit in the lengthwise direction, but so that the piece still remains intact.

If you want, you can mix the tuft with Wool Crepe of another colour.

WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
Creating tufts

Pull the loosened string into three equal pieces. Do the following with each of the pieces: pull the piece loose in the middle, in the lengthwise direction with the hairs; then place the two pieces on top of each other and divide them into two again.

Keep the hands about 20 cm apart. Keep repeating this action until the Wool Crepe is transparent.
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
Hold the Wool Crepe against the light to see if there are any dark patches.
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
Keep repeating this action until the Wool Crepe is transparent. The pieces get increasingly shorter and thicker.
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
The pieces get increasingly shorter and thicker.
As soon as the result is transparent, you pull the tuft into a length of 20 to 25 cm again and you spray it with a hairspray with a strong hold to strengthen it. You can also use plastic spray.
Note: using hairspray or plastic spray on the Wool Crepe will make it inflammable.
WOLCRÊPE = Wool Crepe
Snip the tufts gently diagonally across.
Now you have six pieces, which let you make the hairline.
Attaching a Wool Crepe hairline:
Work piece by piece. Apply glue to the part of the skin concerned and press the cut surface/obliquely cut side into the adhesive. Please note: keep the cut edges well together while attaching.

Modelling:
Press the adhesive edge onto the skin with one hand, and model the Wool Crepe pieces together with the other hand. You do this with the end of a pin-tail comb or the back of a brush, until the edge becomes a single area. Please note: do not comb!
You create the desired shape for the edge using scissors and/or clippers. Fix the result with a hairspray.
