Before starting, you ensure your hands and nails are well cleaned. File your nails if necessary, so that there are no snags. By doing this you prevent damages on the face and risk of infection.
Always work using clean materials (sponges, brushes, spatulas, water bowls) and change the water regularly.
Get the subject to put on any clothes beforehand that have to be put on over the head. Protect your models clothing with a hairdressing cape or a towel.
Fold the front edge back and apply an adhesive edge of about 2 cm just below the hairline with Grimas Mastix Extra. For a natural effect, you follow a possible natural line in the forehead.
Let the adhesive edge go as far as the temples.
Mark out the ears.
A felt-tip pen was used in this example for the sake of clarity. If a Grimas Make-up Pencil for example in a skin tone is used, the result is more subtle and no longer visible later on.
When you finish off the edges with acetone you are also immediately removing the sketch made using the Make-up Pencil.
You should proceed as follows:
Pull the Bald Cap down at an angle to tense it. Dip a cotton bud in acetone (don't work too wet) and melt a small hole in the Bald Cap at precisely the right place: 2 mm below the point where the top of the pinna (the 'shell' of the ear) leaves the head.
Hint: if necessary, you can melt multiple holes along the line for easy cutting.
Get the model that will wear the Bald Cap to sit up straight. Now make a glued edge of approximately 2 cm along the sideburns. Let this adhesive edge fit up exactly against the glued edge on the forehead. There must not be a gap between them.
Use the same principle: fold back, apply adhesive, reposition the side edge, press gently and fold back again. Allow to dry for about 15 seconds and then apply along the sideburns again.
Note: do a little piece at a time, and stay in the middle of the adhesive edge so that you are following the shape of the adhesive edge.
Make a small hole at the middle of the adhesive edge at the back as well; cut up to it and then proceed in the same fashion from the back of the head towards the back of the ears.
Apply the Derma Wax with the convex rounded side of the spatula and smooth the edges down so that grease and moisture cannot get underneath.
Work in the Derma Wax out over the edge of the plaster.
Smooth the Derma Wax surface and edges off with the fingertip, using a little bit of Grimas Cleansing Cream.
Apply the light colour Crème Make-up Pure on top and smear the make-up out over the Bald Cap. You can add some more shadow to create depth. To fix and mattify, you can powder the Crème Make-up Pure off with Grimas Fixing Powder or Make-up Powder. Fixing Powder can be applied with a Grimas Velour Powder Puff, a Powder Puff or a Powder Rouge Brush. Gently tap the puff or brush on the back of the hand and then apply plentifully on top of the make-up. Allow to settle in for a waterproof result and remove the excess powder with a Powder-Rouge Brush.
Lubricate the tip of the spatula with a little bit of Cleansing Cream. This will allow the spatula to slide more easily through the Derma Wax, preventing it from sticking to the spatula. Opening the wound edges up allows you to create a tattered effect. Raise the 'wound edges' using a Derma Wax spatula, lightly lubricated with Cleansing Cream. Do this carefully.
Colouring: to add a suggestion of depth to the wounds, you colour the bottom of the wound using black make-up. Then colour the inner side of the wound with dark red Crème Make-up Pure.
With Tooth Enamel you colour the teeth yellow first and then you create black edges, which gives an effect as if tooth pieces have broken off. Dry the teeth with a tissue. Shake the bottle well before use. Apply Tooth Enamel with the brush and allow to dry for a few seconds.
Do not use Tooth Enamel on dentures and teeth with fillings. A porous surface will make Tooth Enamel difficult to remove. Note: Tooth Enamel dissolves in alcohol.
Stick on plastic flies and spiders (available from joke shops) with Mastix Extra.
Blood
You can apply it directly from the tube or with a brush.
Filmblood
There are different shades of Filmblood: from light red (oxygen-rich blood) to dark red (oxygen-poor blood). You can apply it directly from the bottle.
Blood Paste
When using Blood Paste, it is not necessary to colour the wound first. The stiff structure of the Blood Paste lets you produce three-dimensional effects. The structure remains malleable for quite a long time. Apply the Blood Paste with a clean Derma Wax Spatula. Close the packaging immediately after use.
Detach the adhesive edge with a cotton bud soaked in Grimas Mastix Remover. Scrape the Derma Wax off the skin with the spatula. Remove the adhesive and make-up residues with Mastix Remover.
Massage Grimas Multi Remover Pure or Cleansing Cream into the skin and remove with a tissue. Cleanse the skin afterwards with cleansing lotion.
You can remove the tooth enamel with a tissue soaked in an alcoholic liquid. Colour residues on or between the teeth can easily be removed with a toothbrush and toothpaste.
Store the make-up in a dry and cool place until the next time you use it.
The sponges are disposable so you can throw them away after use. If you do want to reuse them, first rinse them under the tap with some soap or shampoo or wash them in the washing machine (in a net bag or pillow case), set to at least 60°C.
You can clean brushes with water and soap or shampoo. Put the moist hairs of the brushes back into shape by hand after washing. Dry the brushes lying flat on a towel and do not place them upright, since that causes the moisture to run down into the shaft.
